SurFace is an interactive artwork that explores the topics of identity, data extraction, surveillance and ai ethics, by displaying one of the state-of-the-art technologies for facial analysis.

Using a face recognition package that wraps many models (including the ones used by Google and Meta) the piece analyses the face of the viewer and predicts their gender, ethnicity, age and emotional state. As the viewer moves, the tracking shortly follows and so does the data extraction. How does labels affects the way we inhabit the world? What comes implicit with those assumptions? The framework claims accuracy, but in relation to what?

SurFace was created using DeepFace, TocuhDesigner and Ableton Live 12.
